Men were the doctors, lawyers, and engineers. “They were the main voice in the family, they got the best education, they were the only politicians, and they had great control over women.” (Ruiz) They were supposed to go to work and get money so he can pay the bills. They were more dominant, not only for having the jobs or for their “manliness”, but having more freedom. For example only men allowed to vote, own land, and only men had the final say, they not only spoke for themselves but also for their wives. The concept of equality back in the early 1800’s became more outstanding. Although women were still considered powerless compared to men, they were given more education opportunities. There are more women doctors, lawyers, and engineers now than there ever was. They have definitely been developing greatly in their lifestyles now compared to in the past. In today’s society, there are still people who don’t believe in gender equality, but it is so much better now then it was before. Women are not confined to just being in the house anymore, they are free to do anything they have desired to be. If they want to be politicians, they can! If they want to be highly educated, they can! If they want to take charge, they can! Being pro women does not always mean anti men, it just means they both matter. Men and women have more freedom on who they want to be, and that’s the way it should be.
