In the film ‘the help’ it is set in Jackson, Mississippi during the early 1960’s. It follows the story of Skeeter (protagonist), Hilly (antagonist), Mini (catalyst) and other characters during race wars, segregation, power plays, and general struggles of day to day life in a Racist rural country town.

Is when Hilly gets told off by here husband and then turns around and tells the maid to change the task of getting her husband a sand which (play clip). The gender role which is clearly laid out in the film is that the women in a relationship answers to the husband with no questions answered. Similarly, though it is seen that African American women have to answer to Men in their own culture and White women that employee them. Gender roles there fore fit the stereotype of the time, in todays society it is unacceptable to treat any women with the level of disrespect show in the clip. If we Psychoanalyse this clip this clip, we can see clearly defined the need of women to exert their dominance over the maids. The gender roles that they have to fulfil takes a tole of them as they have little power in their relationship so in turn they exert their dominance over the maids.
