Stereotype is a set of beliefs about the perceived personal attributes of a group of people to some degree they are inaccurate. They tend to be so overgeneralized that a lot of times they fail people but even then, they still continue to keep them. According to Koivula “Mass media is a powerful factor which influences our beliefs, attitudes, and the values we have of ourselves and others as well as the world surrounding us.” To me this shows a prime example of where we learn our stereotypes, the way we interpret the medias message has a lot to do with own cultural, social, and individual circumstances. If we grow up thinking that women’s sports are not as important as male sports the coverage is going to be very low because once again they are being looked at as the outgroup. Having them as an outgroup and having those gender stereotypes can come with consequences. Those consequences include the social construction of gender and gender difference, the stratification of society by gender, and strengthening of the myth of female passivity and frailty. Who would have thought that something so simple that we do not pay a lot of attention to could make of what society thinks of women. In the eyes of society women are the ones that fragile and nurturing putting them in a position of being looked at as if they do not deserve to be in the position of sports since
