In the first social setting, the people reactions to me walking around in my boxers was normal. No one seemed to mind when I asked, is it alright that I am in my boxers. In fact, most of the males on the floor walk around in their boxers. In an all male environment, most males break this folkway of walking around in boxers and don’t seem to care when other males do the same. I felt social excepted the whole time while I was conducting this experiment on the all male floor, and did not experience any difficulties carrying out this assignment. In fact, most of males where just wearing their boxers when I conducted this experiment. However, the results in the co-ed floors were slightly different, all of the males in private were comfortable with people wearing their boxers around but when …show more content…
Ninety percent of the females said they didn’t mind at all because at home they had family members that did the something all the time so they were used to it and they found it to remind them of their bothers at home. My reaction was why did the girls not care that I was in my boxers but the guys cared when girls came around. I found out that it was because the guys wanted to take the view of what the girls would think, but that is not actually what they were thinking when they saw me. I experienced very little difficulties carrying out this experiment in the co-ed floor because I knew everybody there and they all knew me. The results of the third social setting were even more mixed, the girls who had brothers at home did not care at all that a male was present in his boxers; however, the females who where only child’s or only had sisters did not accept the idea that it was excitable for a male to be present in his boxers. Their reaction to the situation was a person always be fully clothed when outside his or her dorm

As a senior I am approaching the final days of high school and over the course of four years I’ve had the privilege to visit colleges and catch a glimpse of what the experience is like. Furthermore, my partner is in his second semester of college as a first year and consequently he gives me advice as well as telling me about his experiences so far. In the beginning he was slightly nervous to be in a different environment, but that quickly came to an end when he made acquaintances. As a male in college the experience is not what was expected in high school. Many are focusing and getting the job done while taking it seriously.…

Lately, I have been pondering on the harsh dress code rules. When did my shoulders become something I should be ashamed of showing? When did it become a secret that girls wear undergarments? Admonishing girls for letting their shoulders or bra straps show is the most ridiculous form of dress code. Dress coding this harshly can promote negative feelings about their bodies, when they already feel bad enough.…

Men are capable of respecting a woman’s decision to wear whatever she chooses without using it as an invitation, because what a woman is wearing never indicates if she is “asking for it.” In fact, nothing a man or woman does justifies unwanted attention, sexual or…

They appeared to have little to worry about in regards to their appearance; I even spotted one boy in blue jeans and a plain t-shirt. The majority of them undoubtedly spent mere minutes getting dressed that night, and as uncomfortable as collared shirts and ties may be, they always had the option to loosen ties, roll up sleeves, or otherwise alter their clothing to allow for more comfort. Dressing up was not an event in itself, but rather a minor nuisance that had little effect on the overall experience. Nonetheless, male judgement still shapes the idea of beauty in both females and other males.…

“Women have it harder than men… Women aren’t treated equal… Society is dominated by men”. Has society even thought that maybe men don’t have it as easy as society thinks? The Misogynist Ruling Imagine it is 80 degrees and sunny outside, the inside of the school is humid and hot. The school does not turn on the air conditioning till they know it will stay warm outside, you do not want to feel too hot, and you want to be comfortable so you are wearing a tank top and shorts. The schools dress code does not permit anything that goes above the knee or anything that shows your shoulders as that is considered provocative for being a young girl. One of your teachers calls you out in front of the whole class to slut shame you for trying to be comfortable and to dress accordingly to the weather.…

The average American child sees over 100 advertisements a day, as the American Psychological Association claims. It seems like an outrageous quantity, but it is quite true if thought about. A child sees advertisements on television, computers, cell phones and sometimes even in the classroom or in schools, the only place that they are supposed to be free from the outside world. Advertisers have decided that if they want to strike gold, they need to target young children, especially due to the fact that they greatly influence what their parents spend their money on. It is quite shocking how advertisers use tactic to influence a child’s mind by practically brainwashing them with manipulative advertisements that star mascots or use toys or other…

However, this comfort stems from the images of femininity that I’ve seen on both television and also from the women that I have been surrounded by since a young age. While the way I dress is a product of the social construction of gender, it is also a product of the religious beliefs and values held by my parents that have been passed on to me. I know my parents would disapprove of a crop top that revealed a lot and a skirt that was really short and because this is what they have told me growing up, and my clothing choices also reflect this sometimes. This just goes to show how, the parts of ourselves that we consider to be the most personal to us are actually part of a much bigger…

Everyone has their own opinion on what attire is appropriate for school; some people may feel that some of the clothes that the girls wear is “too much”, but what exactly is too much? A majority would say that revealing shoulders and bra straps are inappropriate, but others would think differently. While some of the clothes people wear shouldn’t be worn in a learning environment, society shouldn’t be biased and make a fair dress code for both male and female students because it can make female women students ashamed of their bodies, which is degrading and makes them out to be sexual objects. With male students having the privilege to wear almost whatever they want, it makes females feel like they should cover up their bodies due to the fact that their bodies can distract boys from getting an education.(Since a females education isn’t as important). There has been many incidents where a female student would be taken out of class or sent home because her shoulders were showing or was wearing shorts on a hot day.…

It was the beginning of my junior year of high school that I was already feeling the pressure heavily on what college I should attend that would guide in the best way for my chosen career. During a break period, my friends and I were walking into a hallway speaking about the colleges we thought about attending when suddenly a student bumps into me, almost knocking me down completely, turned back and said, “Watch it wetback!” Shocked beyond words of expression that I had just encountered my first experience with racism. My mind was racing, contemplating whether or not to say something back, but I was already speaking by the time I could make a decision in my head yelling back, “How dare you assume and use such a derogatory term to me!” His response?…

Stereotypes are something that has been around for years and they still exist today. Many people believe stereotypes don't have the power to bring down a high school student’s ability to succeed. There have been articles and movies about stereotypes. The article “How a Self Fulfilling Stereotype Can Drag Down a Performance” by Shankar Vedantam has talked about how stereotypes can affect how people perform in school, work, and life. There are also movies that are based on true events that have happened like in “Stand and Deliver”.…
