Males are dominant. Females are not. Females are care givers. Males are not. “Act like a man. Stop acting like a girl.” These are just a few examples of gender stereotypes that we are faced with everyday from the time we are born. Gender stereotypes have become an extensive role in today’s society, which has resulted in the expectations of males to act one way, and females to act another. Stereotypes can be seen everywhere from commercials, to children 's’ toys, to movies, to one’s personal household, including my own. Growing up I was always observant of my parent’s behavior at home and in public. I have come to the realization that yes, my parents do exemplify some examples of gender roles, but for the most part they defy the stereotypical gender roles. In Judy Syfers “Why I Want A Wife”, she states,” I want a wife who will keep my house clean…I want a wife who will keep my clothes clean,ironed... I want a wife who cooks the meals, and is a good cook.” This portrays one of the most common gender stereotypes which is that it is a women’s job to clean, wash, and cook. This always reminds me of a Tyler Perry’s play that I once watched in which there was a woman singing a song that said,”Ya gotta cook, and clean, and wash everything.” She was giving advice to a younger woman about what she was supposed to do as a wife. When I first watched this, when I was younger, I did not think anything of it. That was until I got older and noticed that my mom truly did…
