Our society has built up these gender stereotypes stating men are big, strong, superior (to women) and aren’t allowed to show compassion while women are these petite, soft-spoken emotional disasters. The current children of this generation, i feel have it the easiest when it comes to dealing with the gender notion. Everything aside, they are still faced with gender normalities. Only a few decades ago our nation used the term “stay at home mom”,but you would never hear anyone say “stay at home dad” because our culture believed that the men had the jobs and made the money while the women would clean and take care of the children. Many Disney characters had been accommodated into this stereotype in order fit the current culture that we have become…

Children don’t inherit intellectual differences; they learn them. These differences are results of what society expects a boy or girl to be. Three works of literature that give readers similar impressions are The Yellow Wallpaper, by Charlotte Perkins Gilman, A Writers Model, by Molly Giles, and Sex Without Love, by Sharon Olds. The two stories and the poem portray the way men and women are trapped and controlled by stereotypical gender roles. These set gender roles are linked to gender inequality and to the harmful representations of both men and women. Gender roles are the concepts of how men and women are expected to act and they are molded by their cultural norms. The roles of men are usually associated with strength, dominance, and aggression, while feminine roles are usually associated with nuturing, passivity, and subordination.…

Over the course of United States every single one of the forty-four presidents have been men; and of their vice-presidents, all of them have been men as well. The 2010 census, conducted by the United States Census Bureau, shows that males represent 49.2% of the population while females represent 50.8%. Why is it that in a nation almost equally divided between male and females there has never been woman president? All over the world women head countries as Chancellors, Presidents, and Prime Ministers. To get a sense of the racial and ethnical backgrounds within the city of Madison, my group and I walked up and down South Park Street along Monona Bay. Originally from small-town Iowa, I was never exposed to racial diversity and expected little more from our neighboring Midwest state. We began our journey at the Meriter Hospital heading south towards the belt line. While walking, we observed our surroundings, took notes on peculiar sites, and interacted with a variety of different ethnic restaurant employees and business owners. My goal for this project was to learn more about unfamiliar ethnic groups to expand my understanding of different cultures, their customs, and their beliefs.…

It may sound general, but another stereotype that we see every day is the one between men and women. Men are often labeled as the stronger, more dominant gender while women are viewed as submissive but much more logical than most men. Most of us picture the average man as a person who works for eight hours and just wants to come home and relax with a cold beer and a remote. However, women are viewed as the person who cooks, cleans, takes care of the kids, and maintains the house while keeping a watchful eye on her husband.
