In a recent poll performed by The Washington Post, six out of ten women declare themselves to be a feminist (Cai and Clement). In Ellen Ullman’s essay, “How to Be a ‘Woman Programmer,” she argues that women today “face a new, more virile and virulent sexism” (729). However, Saul Kaplan, author of “The Plight of Young Males,” adds to the gender inequality argument by stating, “Young men in the United States are in trouble by any measure of educational attainment” (732). It has become common today to argue about women’s inequality or focusing on solely the school’s education methods to equip future men, which we tend to overlook the deeper problems which are the results of our rapidly growing feminist culture.…

Gender effect in the Sierra Leone War Through Ishmael Beah and Mariatu Kamara’s autobiographies, the world learned about the devastating war in Sierra Leone through the eyes of a boy and a girl. The civil war stripped children from their families and killed many innocent civilians. In A Long Way Gone by Beah Beah he says, “One of the main aims of the rebels was to force the civilians to stay with them, especially women and children” (Beah 37). The rebels used the civilians as either bait for the army or as servants. They took girls to cook or exploit and recruited boys as soldiers.…

Many believe that the way to help girls become more interested in math and science is to “pinkify” them. They believe that girls are interested in fashion and boys and make-up and that is what program should relate math and science with, in order for girls to become interested in the topics. But what these people fail to take in account is that not all girls are interested in make-up or dating or even fashion. Girls have different interests and programs should take that into account when trying to help girls become more interested in math and science. Also, parents should encourage their children to take interest in the subjects.…

It does this through promoting the issue in schools, for youths, in workplaces and through annual campaigns. It employs several of the key action areas in the Ottawa Charter to promote an acceptable level of wellbeing for women,…

Another program is the African American Leadership program that shows young men how not to be followers, but how to lead. This will teach and show them that it's okay to take initiative sometimes and not be in someone else shadow. One last program that would be beneficial is the Young Men of Color Program where adolescents are shown that being an African American is something to be prod of because we have so much to offer to society. All these programs will…

Ever since I was a little girl, I have been taught about what a girl should and shouldn’t do, what a girl should or shouldn’t wear, and even what a girl should or shouldn’t be. And as I got older my identity has slowly conformed to these gender ideas. But, what if when I was younger I hadn’t been taught about gender and what if gender ideals wouldn’t have been pushed onto us by the media? Would I be the same person that I am today, or would I be someone completely different? I would hope that I would be the same person now, but I do not believe that that would be the case.…

Team/Project Structure It was an interesting learning experience completing the group research project. I was fortunate enough to choose my own group. My group (Trisha Grahmann, Amanda Rodriguez, Crystal Powell, and Danielle Pardo) chose the topic of “First Impressions”; initially, this topic was the main reason why I chose to be in their group. The secondary reason was that the group members appeared to be very intellectual and insightful. Individually, we were able to choose a specific subtopic that we would like to share about and be responsible for.…

An example of messing with people’s feelings is simply an attempt to convert mutually shared attributes based on gender dissimilarities, to ownership. I am talking about unique qualities that you own to the exclusion of your sex partner because of gender-type, which you attempt to own for control purposes; they are attributes meant for merging and sharing emotional experiences. Do not pretend that there is an angle of complexity to this, because in the real world of sexual relationships, men and women work harder than they should, to undermine the importance of dissimilar gender attributes meant for sharing, and go right to taking ownership of what is uniquely the other person’s. Unfortunately, the supposedly domineering partner soon becomes…

Gender-neutral housing allows college students to live with each other on campus regardless of their gender and sexual orientation ("Gender-inclusive housing at MIT", 2015). Some schools have recently pushed for gender-neutral housing on their campuses in order allow “transgender, gay, and lesbian students feel more comfortable with their living situations” (Koma, 2014). At the same time, some students and faculty members might believe that gender-neutral housing have more “negative implications” than positive ones (Alec, 2013). However, some students feel uncomfortable with the current state of traditional housing. Traditional housing might make a LGBTQ student feel uncomfortable living with a heterosexual student.…

Anyone who is living in the 21st century has heard of the movements of gender equality and feminism. This topic of interest has been around for awhile, and is making a huge comeback. When thinking about gender discrimination, our minds naturally assume that women are the ones being discriminated against. That assumption is wrong, men and women are equally stereotyped into roles of masculinity vs. femininity. In order to fight for gender equality, we have to understand what gender equality is, and why feminism isn 't just for women.…
