Notable Differences The most significant differences I noticed between what was expected and my actual findings surrounded the gender roles concerning child care and level of commitment and stress regarding her kids. According to Arnett (2016), the mother is expected to spend more time with her children and are more affected by child birth than the father. This is due to the maternal instincts that increase during pregnancy and child birth that the father may not understand or share. The father is usually not fully aware of his partner’s emotional state or physical state due to him not experiencing the actual process of pregnancy and child birth. Even though these traits are expected in most mothers and fathers, I actually found the opposite …show more content…
Her mother is a huge support system and takes care of her children and the household chores. Therefore, she is stressed because with her mother gone, all the responsibilities fall on her shoulders. Usually when she is stressed, she tends to ignore the situation and isolate herself. Turning to social media and watching movies and television is her preferred method to cope, because it doesn’t require effort, it is dependable, and it can be done anywhere (Arnett, 2016). A suggestion to resolve these issues, would be to involve herself more in her kids’ activities and school related functions. This would benefit both her stress levels and her relationship with her kids. Increased community involvement tends to reduce stress levels because “sense of belonging to the community was used and interpreted as a coping factor that could approach the notion of social support” (Muhammad & Gagnon, 2010). She would be able to confide in the community’s support, but also take action to support and spend time with her …show more content…
Specifically concerning young adults, it is just as important to take care of yourself when you are younger as it is when you are a much older adult. Exercise becomes much more important the older you get, because the body becomes more inefficient as one get older. You have to work harder to get the same physical result. Even though early adulthood doesn’t see much of a drastic change physically, it is important to take care of yourself to prevent future medical problems and to establish routine healthy habits. Cognitively, I think people are never at their full potential, but they can reach a certain level of expertise and creativity at a certain job. Being in the early adult stage seems to be the best, because you’re not an immature teen, but you’re also not at the point of menopause in the late adulthood stage yet either. Part of this I think can be related to how young adults can still relate to teen concepts of media and television, but can also conceptualize the more difficult ideas related to work and being an adult in general. Early adults do not feel nor see themselves as one thing or the other, because they are a combination of stages of life. Therefore, in my nursing practice I can utilize these facts to be able to relate to them on both a young adult level and an educated adult level that is an

Response to Other People’s Children: Cultural Conflict in the Classroom Lisa Delpit’s analogy in “Other People’s Children: Cultural Conflict in the Classroom” is a complex example of a mono-sided dialogue. In this text, Delpit provides a complex set of evidence that indicates that the black population is grossly misunderstood in a classroom setting. The white population appear to have a misconception of what is right for everyone. Delpit cites one of the responses asserting, “They think they know everything about everybody”, which is a critical premise in the direction that any dialogue is likely to take (22).…

Cultural competence is in my understanding as an educator is having personal beliefs and attitudes to allow you to accept, acknowledge and understand children’s cultures, cultural background and cultural heritage. I believe its accepting children for who they are embracing their individuality and uniqueness. Cultural competence is also working in conjunction with the Early Years Learning Framework, The National Quality Framework and the policies and procedures that are in place at the early education service in which you work. Cultural competence is having the ability to understand and appreciate others from different cultural backgrounds while ensuring you provide an environment that supports cultural identity making children feel a sense…

Hello, Dr. Headly When dealing with an infant, I believe the parents’ role is crucial because the infant is totally dependent. Oliva could not control anything concerning her; therefore her mother is solely responsible for her well-being. This may be the cause of her guilt and feelings of failure. Our Communication with parents will be more helpful and compassionate if we understand, as Vygotsky pointed out, that our own ideas and values are mediated by the culture in which we live (Broderick & Blewitt, 2015). I realize when helping this family come up with developing a treatment plan that culture will be essential.…

There is a list of “developmental tasks” that Robert Havighurst in the reading “When Do You Become an Adult”: finding a mate, learning to live with a partner, starting a family, raising children, beginning an occupation, running a home. However, as we discussed in class, these tasks of adulthood are being increasingly delayed because of the technology revolution, sexual revolution, and women’s revolution. In the movie “Good Will Hunting”, Will is going through the period of “emerging adulthood”. During his 20s, Will Hunting is biologically an adult that he reached reproductive maturity and can pass on his genes.…

There were about the same number of single fathers and single mothers. I observed the same behavior when it came to young children, such as carrying them in the shopping cart. A difference I noticed was that women seemed to have more conversation with their young than men. While men were focused on shopping products, females were focused on talking with their babies about the surroundings. For example, there was a young mother of less than 30 years old.…
