stood at the front of the stage staring up at him, looking right thought the other band members and ignoring the raging crowd behind me. There were dozens of screaming girls trying to take my place, hoping to get the lead singer to notice them but I had no interested in him. It was the drummer that had my undivided attention and I wasn’t moving. Come hell or high water I wasn’t going anywhere, I knew down to my soul this was exactly where I was supposed to be. In the ten seconds that it took for him to suggest that I come to the gig I had seen our entire lives play out, from dating to sitting in our rockers side-by-side reminiscing over ‘the good old days’ and I couldn’t wait.

Being just over six feet tall, with long dark shaggy hair that constantly falls into his eyes, his brooding looks, skinny jeans complete with dog chain and leather jacket I can see what draws them to him. He looks like he’s a member of the next hottest up and coming band, no one would guess him for the nerd that he really is. He should have been my ideal boyfriend as we have so much in common, the only problem with that is we were more like siblings. We have lived next to each other nearly all our lives; I have pictures of us pinned up on my bedroom wall documenting our lives and friendship through the years. My personal favorite being the ones from my third birthday, I had a garden party complete with paddling pool. We are both naked as the day we were born and having the time of our lives splishing and splashing all over the …show more content…
By the time we fight our way back down to the front the last band have finished and the event promoters have gathered on stage. One of them steps forward microphone in hand. “Evening people, has everyone had a good time?” The entire place erupts, the noise almost to the point of pain. “This is how it’s going to work. I will call out the bands name one at a time and which ever band gets the most noise will win the £1000 gift certificate to Music box and be added to the Roadhouse festival lineup which will take place in four weeks time.” Again the noise is insane but I hardly notice because he walks out on stage with the rest of the bands. The bands take the stage and form a line leaving small gaps between them and the promoter jogs down the line to stand in front of the first. “MAKE SOME NOISE FOR SONIC SATALITES.” The crowd gives of a fairly decent roar of approval. “Awesome, next band up SPELLBOUND.” Another decent roar just not as good as the first. The promoter moves down the line to stand in front of his band. “THE PLAGUE.” The phrase ‘the crowd goes wild’ is an understatement, there are so many people shouting, screaming, whistling and stamping their feet that the floor and walls are vibrating with the force of it, but not me. No I stand perfectly still not moving a muscle hardly breathing; I can’t take my eyes off him. He stands there knowing that he belongs there, the ultimate rock god. A small

On Wednesday November 23, 2016 I had quite the experience of my life. For the first time, I attended an actual concert, and not just any concert. I was blessed with a free ticket to go see Joe Bonamassa at the Altria Theater here in Richmond, Virginia. With a little research, I discovered that Joe Bonamassa is a Grammy- nominated blues -rock guitarist. At the time I was given the ticket to go see him preform, I felt no sense of excitement, I never even heard of him before that day nor did I listen to blues-rock.…

“You’re going to great,” said one of my closest friends from the praise team, Caroline. I could not believe her; I was too afraid to let down my praise team and congregation. I remember hearing everyone sing the opening hymns. I was even too scared to sing along because I had already…

The group of friends standing right in front of us jumped and sang every word of the songs being sung. We were only 30 seconds into the first song he sang, there was no one in the crowd in sight just standing there. Days before, I remember counting down for the day to approach. Waiting for that day filled with country music, sunshine, cowboy boots, and hats. It was the stereotypical perfect day, i've been waited for this the entire summer, ever since we heard of it on Wild Country 99.…

Crouching, we softly chant, “energy.” Slowly rising our bodies, we chant louder and louder, almost reaching a scream and going insane, until our bodies drain completely of our nervous energy. We settle back down onto the floor and have a few minutes to ourselves. Time travels too fast. We rise and make our way down the endless hallways toward the stage.…

I was born a woman; probably my father wasn’t so happy about my gender. Perhaps he wanted a boy named after him. I can’t remember my first thought as a baby, but I’m sure I wasn’t able to distinguish between males and females, or the fact that the doctor was a male and the nurse was a female. I just knew I wanted to love and be loved regardless of my race, sex, or religion. My friend Melissa was raped, and it was her fault.…

I sat in a crowded auditorium with nothing but my thoughts before I tried out for the Contra Costa County Honor Band. After about two hours I was led into the audition room drenched in sweat with my oboe in my trembling hand. I managed a pretty good audition, but after replaying the audition over and over in my head I doubted whether I would get in. A week later, my band director congratulated me on making principal oboe and handed me Maslanka's Symphony 7, with about 4 parts marked solo in bold letters.…

Stage lights were dimmed, and house lights brightened, yet the crowd remained unmoved, singing in unison an unceasing refrain. Stu Larsen had long since left the stage after concluding his third encore at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland, Oregon. Two weeks prior, at Fordham University, Jiawei Yan, Kenneth Liao, and Yihui Liu took a bow as their audience of thirty-some undergraduate students fled the University Church. From start to finish the juxtaposition between the modern “Singer/Songwriter” and the Juilliard graduate students’ performance was conspicuous. The gap between each concert’s venue, audience, and etiquette were ways away from one another, yet some thread binds these two opposing experiences together.…
