Changing economic roles of women in 1920s
The first World War led to the gain of a variety of jobs for women.
During the Great War, men departed from their hometowns to fight for their country. This left a vast amount of job positions open, and no one to fill them, but women.
Women began taking mens spot on the family-owned farm, as well as in places outside of the home. In order to fulfill the need of wartime supplies, women began working in steel and iron factories to create the needed supplies, such as ammunition. Despite the challenges of inequality that women faced, women overall were working, and although not common, were beginning to earn degrees that would allow them to be skilled professionals.
