Gender roles can plague everyone. A person could either be (source A). Gender roles can be more constraining for women in modern society because women now have fewer chances to climb higher, women are viewed as objects, and women "must" conform to the gender roles. Women are generalized in a negative way when it comes to jobs. They either "don 't seek high-risk jobs or don 't perform as well at them as men do" or "demonstrate an aversion to risk-taking" (Source F). Because of these and many other stereotypes, women are truly not given the chance to climb high in the workplace. In society today, it is a common theme that you must be pretty to be well liked. In the poem in source E, it talks about a healthy girl who grew up liking feminine things. When she got into school one day, someone called her fat and told her that she had a large nose. Now, everyone saw her with those features and could not see past those. Those people told her to do everything to try and offset her weight and features but she couldn 't do that forever. The girl cut off her insecurities and was given prettier parts. Everyone remarked on how pretty she was now and she had finally gotten her "happy ending". Yet, people said that while she was quiet, had make-up put on her, and given a new nose. They had told her she needed to change while she was alive and this is a problem that many girls face today. People only realize someone 's beauty when they are unhappy and change drastically to fit what others told them to fix. Women are also subject to being objects of men 's desires. There 's always been the stigma that women are to be won by the man. An example of this is when Brad, a history teacher, tries to prove that Ben, the student, isn 't the intimidating figure that he thinks he is. One day, Ben said that he was the alpha male of the class but Brad told him that he couldn 't be because alpha males must mate with the girls. Brad said this while in a predominantly female class.
