Gender Role Being Unfair
As there are still less gender inequality in today’s society, during the mediaeval Christianity women had far less rights and their own voices. Throughout the mediaeval Christianity, the word of God and his messengers such as Paul have given advice on marriage, women and sexulality. In one of the assigned readings, the family line and having an offspring was important. Important enough to getting a close relative or slave pregnant. The general role of gender is showing wives being obedience to their husbands, important of having a child, and women’s sexulaity, making sure young women are stayed pure for their value.
It seemed liked even in those period were male dominated, women would not be allowed to speak of their mind. They would have been told to obey their husbands and do as what he would please to. However, women were mentioned as human beings as well. Paul is giving advices on how to guide a right marriage path. He tells people that it would not be fair of how wives are owned by their husbands and they cannot own their husband.
The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. 4For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does; likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. 5Do not deprive one another except perhaps by agreement for a set time, to devote yourselves to prayer, and then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt…
