Police Gender Ratio

It is very evident or clear that the gender ratio in police stations are uneven. This hasn’t been a problem just recently, no, there has been an obvious unbalancing for decades. Women in large police agencies have been accounted for 14.3% in 1999, 13.0% in 2000, and 12.7% in 2001 (NCWP Publications." National Center For Women and Policing. N.p., n.d. Web. 13 Oct. 2015). What is even more alarming, is the fact that the percentage of women in police agencies is decreasing throughout the years. They are going in the total opposite direction of where they want to be. Just about anything that would get the word out about how important women are to men when it comes to protecting the streets. My last step would be to maker sure they stay in force once they join. A reason why many women don’t go on to join the police is because they are seen as being different, somewhat as feeling alienated. Being the Personal Director, I would treat my officers the same, no matter what gender or skin color they are. On top of showing the same respect for all officers, I would also show my appreciation for women officers. I would do this by hanging posters across town showing that the force now has women officers and we are proud of it. It would be things like that to show my gratitude for women officers; it might seem small posting flyers and posters across town, but at the end of the day they would feel proud to be on the force and they will also feel appreciated. It might seem like it is a big task at first, but with my three step plan, women officers would be shown the love and recognition they so much …show more content…
It is one thing to recruit and gather women to join the force, but to make them stay is another story. One way of accomplishing this is to show appreciation of what the do to make the streets safe. it goes back to the old saying, “give credit where credit is due.” For example, anytime you see a poster or an advertisement of the police force, you see more times than not male offices on it. If I was the Personal Director, I would put up posters or billboards across the town of women officers. It might seem small, but it shows that the town and police force are confident and behind women officers 100%. As a result, it would make women feel like they are making a difference and that they appreciated for their well doing. On top of showing appreciation, I would also make sure that there is a clear line of equality between the sex of the officer. Male or Female, we all have the same rights and must be treated with the same respect. Since my second to last step was about recruiting women officers, it only makes sense to have my last step be showing equality and appreciation; and as a result, they would want to stay in the
