Closing the gender pay gap provides women with justice and equal opportunity for future generations, we need find the main sources affecting the unbalance in pay and work together to close the twenty percent wage gap. In order to break this trend, we need to understand the origin of the gap. Women aren’t given the same amount of motivation as adolescents to succeed thus giving men a significant advantage when they get paid. The traditional idea of a domestic role has a negative connotation and it currently continues to haunt working women. Men are working harder than women, meaning unequal opportunity isn’t the sole deciding factor that determines the wage gap. Discrimination affects the pay gap, however, the requirement for demanding working hours has also grown, as have the return to working hours for both genders,”(Mandel and Semyonov 1614). Women aren’t working as hard as men and the pay they receive reflects that. Men that choose higher paying jobs make more money than women that choose lower paying jobs which can be a determining factor that affects the wage gap. Women surpass men in education and have the required amount they need to get jobs with higher pay, yet they gravitate towards lower paying jobs. Women choose what they do with their education, “while men were more likely to graduate from college in the 1960s and 1970s, since the 1990s, the majority of all undergraduate and graduate degrees have gone to women” (Stevenson). Women have the ability to get equal pay considering they have the education they need to go into the workforce, women aren’t applying themselves and don’t get equal pay as a result. To say women aren’t getting paid equally isn’t fair considering they are capable of choosing high paying jobs and working
