Gender Pay Barriers

The gender pay gap has been an issue with detrimental effects for far too long and action must be taken. Enforcing pay transparency is one way to remove opportunities for pay discrimination and help shift towards greater equality (GWGSSC, 2016). This can be done through employers providing information on pay setting philosophy, policies or procedures, or aggregated pay rates or ranges (GWGSSC, 2016). With the knowledge and recognition of pay rates or ranges, employees will recognize the need to examine their practices, and employees will be in a better position to negotiate fairer salaries (GWGSSC, 2016).

The provincial government should begin by encouraging the Broader Public Sector (BPS), Ontario businesses and other non-government organizations
