The LGBTQ+ community, and support for the community has grown exponentially over the last few years. Marriage equality was passed in 2015, and some more progressive states such as California have laws set in place that prohibit discrimination based on sexuality or gender orientation. However, in the United states gender neutral restrooms usually cause controversy because people do not understand the need for them, and they do not approve of transgender people or nonbinary people. However, having available one-stall gender neutral restrooms will make more people comfortable with using a public restroom, because it is a single stall restroom. Gender neutral restrooms are beneficial to society and should be widely spread because nobody should be forced to label themselves, they will make it easier for all families to use the restroom, and the government's main priority should be to protect the citizens …show more content…
It can be a burden for parents of the opposite gender, they may not know whether to take their children to the restroom that coincides with their child's gender or the parent’s gender to avoid a struggle. In many ways, gendered bathrooms typically do not function with non traditional families in mind. Usually, only women's restrooms provide diaper changing tables, which is both sexist and inconvenient. Unisex bathrooms would make childcare less challenging for everyone, because if diaper changing stations were in every bathroom, fathers, transgender parents, or a babysitter will always have an available family friendly restroom. Another instance in which gender neutral restrooms would be beneficial is, if a caretaker is watching over someone that has a different gender then the caretaker, a gender neutral one stall restroom would be better and easier to access. If the care taker is someone that professionally cares for disabled people, or people that would require assistance using the restroom, family friendly, gender neutral restrooms would be a practical and safe solution. Using the restroom in public can be bothersome and uncomfortable for many people, that is why having available one stall gender-neutral restrooms in public will make it easier for people to use the restroom and more comfortable in an
