In the book Half the Sky by Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn, the stories of multiple women and their internal struggles were foretold. Half the Sky discusses the following health topics; maternal mortality, rape, violence, honor killings, lack of education and health ethics that occur in many low income countries. In class, we have discussed many topics that were brought up in the book. Topics such as women’s health, cultural differences, vulnerable groups and the importance of proper health care. As someone who lives in the United States, I often forget the horrors and injustice of this world.…
Application: In my perspective, the feminist based care are necessary components to a caring in nursing practice. Humanistic caring must be understood and reflected on in relation to its place in the dynamic field between the natural, human and social sciences. The nursing care practice cannot be adequately described as definite behaviors, actions, sentiments, or outcomes. More than that, what is perceived as a nursing care depends on the concerns that define the person’s self and value.…
Looking at these two treatments it seems as though everyone would get the same result. This is not true, however. Taking a closer look at gender and age one can see that these factors impact the treatments. For starters, gender roles affect the likelihood one will seek out treatment as well as the social response to treatment . For example, when a boy is diagnosed with Anxiety, social roles push him to ignore the worry as a mental illness and instead view it a normal stain that being the bread winner carries.…
Ethics of Care – Feminist Perspective. Ethics of care, through the feminist lens, presents diverse care perspectives. In a Different Voice, Gilligan (1982) introduced an ethic of care that would challenge the assertion that girls acquired principled adulthood at a slower pace and that their intelligence was substandard in comparison to boys (Held, 2006). This empirical work by Gilligan (1982) focused on how more women participants had a different voice regarding caring about caring, in contrast to the men participants. However, not everyone agreed with her findings and viewed her study as a reproach of two moral views, the justice perspective and a care perspective (Held, 2006; Koggel & Orme, 2010).…
When we consider socioeconomic factors and their impact on births, the most prominent idea is changing cultural norms and values for women in society. It is evident that women have been offered an increasing number of opportunities in both private life and public life. This is recognised particularly in stage 3 where there is a dramatic decline of approximately 40% (Lee 2003, P.173) in the fertility rate particularly in developed countries of the early 20th century. Lee (2003) argues the significant change for women has a strong correlation with child rearing and child bearing in their adult lives. One idea looks at Reher’s (2011) study on ‘Reproductive Efficiency’ which looks at the goals individuals have in terms of reproduction and bearing children.…
Gender differences also affect the power and control against men and women over the socio-economic consideration of their right of entry to the resources and their status including their roles, types of options and the kind of treatment in the society. Gender has important descriptive control over the different weakness and experiencing mental health problems as well as the different outcome of mental illness. Therefore, importantly gender differences are high occurrence of depression, anxiety and personal problems which has affected 20% of the population with normal income.…
A healthy body is important to everyone regardless of their gender, thus, in order to maintain a healthy and able body, a person needs to receive good health care. Taking into account women, they too need good health care in order to take care of their body, and there are many factors that either hinders the development of good health care for women or improve their access to high quality health care. One factor that prevents women from getting the best possible health care are the numerous determinants of health, which have various impacts on various individuals. Health Canada recognizes several determinants including income and social status, physical environment and health services (Unit 1 20). Income plays an important role when it comes…
The United Kingdom has a diverse population, comprising of people from all nations around the world, from many different cultural and religious backgrounds. Within the health social care setting all practitioners have a duty to ensure that they work in a way which supports equality of opportunity while taking into account people's political, economic, social and civil rights, and in such a way that promotes diversity and inclusion. What is equality? Equality is about 'creating a fairer society, where everyone can participate and has the opportunity to fulfil their potential' (DoH, 2004) Equality means to ensure that everyone is treated equally and fairly regardless of their ability, age, religion, beliefs, race, gender, social status or…
Similarly with sexual characteristics, gender has a philosophical influence on health and well-being. As stated by John Moriarty in his lectures, “Biological differences between men and women cannot be used in isolation to explain the influence of gender on health” (2014). While women tend to live longer than men they tend to experience more acute and chronic sickness than men throughout their lives. The socio economic circumstances of women are “often difficult to identify as they are frequently hidden in more general analyses, which either focus on the family as the unit of interest” (Millar and Glendinning, 1992). Consideration of gender inequality, societal roles, health behaviour and help seeking behaviour must be included when concerning gender to health…
In any case, avoiding the beggar was the dumbest decision the man could have made. The beggar undoubtedly noticed the man’s behavior and probably felt lonely and abandoned because of it. More so than he usually does, that is. The indifference of man, which he so easily brushed aside for the sake of his own convenience, could very well end up costing the beggar his eternal salvation.…
Our world has reached very far from what we had actually expected it to go. In terms of development, technology and ideology, our world has broken many barriers and is continuously targeting to break more. People have grown a lot during this change; the mind-set of the people and the mind-set of the society have tremendously changed for the betterment of this world. But one issue and an evil practice, which was in the society and still continuous to be there till date is “Gender Inequality.” Gender Inequality in simple terms refers to unequal treatment of individuals based on their sex.…
Gender equality is one of the societal needs because of the different crimes and violence against gender preferences. There are a lot of things that people need focus on to contribution of success, not just in ourselves, but also in the society. But despite of the progress and changes of…
Many People don’t know how awful gender inequality is. People may think that it is being handled but its just spreading. Women don't have as much rights as men do. Yes, it has been better than the old days, but its still atrocious in business and at home and in some countries, women can't even walk outside without a man. This paper will be talking about when gender inequality started To happen, why genders can’t be equal, what will happen in the long run (will genders ever be equal?) and some solutions To help make genders equal.…
In recent three decades, the importance of gender equality, women’s empowerment and the recognition of women’s rights in succeeding sustainable development has progressively recognized. All over the world gender equity is refer to human rights, precisely women's rights, as well as economic development. Precisely, gender equality means that women and men have the same rights, equal access to resources as well as opportunities across all social institutions such as family, education, politique, religion, media etc. (The United Nations International Children’s Fund, 2011). Gender equality is also one of the goals of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which look for creating equal rights, responsibilities and opportunities…
Gender equality is the equal rights and consideration of the sexes. For decades, women have always done what men told them to do; thus, creating “what is feminine” and “what is masculine”. Even though we are all human, women have been trained to be submissive while men have been trained to be large and in charge. Since the beginning of time, men and women were seen as two separate people; men did all the hard work and women stayed home to take care of the children and the household. These gendered actions started stereotypes between men and women and caused later changes that led to the people proving their self-worth in the community.…
