Throughout history, women have had countless encounters that they had to overcome as a whole. During the primitive time of the country, the obstacle was first being thought of as property and not an actual human. During the 1900s, it was being thought of only being strictly as housewife and including not having the opportunity of voting. According to the Rape and Stalking article, there have been countless injustices done to women over time. “Historically… sexual abuse of a woman has been considered a violation of a man’s property rights rather than a violation of a women’s human rights” (Rape and Stalking) Women have been treated as property for the overextended time. The individual woman could not vote until the nineteen hundreds because of culture’s standards were to believe that women did not keep up with what occurred outside their home. Society believed that women did not try involving themselves within their own society. Their voice did not actually matter until the nineteenth amendment was in fact passed in 1919. About four hundred years after America was found. However, through time, the norms of civilization towards such things have changed. Today, women are more socially accepted as being independent, strong women that don’t essentially need a man to take care of them or even provide things for her. Gender equality does not overall support the American dream. The American dream states that anyone and everyone has the equal opportunity to recreate themselves and their future. However, in today’s society, women are still not encouraged the same manner that males are encouraged for certain things. An individual might not believe that they are not equal to a man, but an individual cannot degrade other women who know what they are
