Gender Inequality In The Media

In the 21st century, today, the media makes us believe that we are coming closer to solving gender inequality. We often hear how more women are getting educated and coming out of college with high degrees. Many women go into work fields that were originally dominated by men. The image of strong and dependent women is more common among society. Most notable, women are starting to lead many parts of the world both politically and economically. Examples of positive women image include Hillary Clinton, First Lady of U.S, Indra Nooyi, CEO of Pepsico and Park Geun Hye, president of South Korea. However, in reality, gender inequality is still a big issue for women. Behind the positive image that the media and society often blind us with, there are still many women who suffer from gender inequality ranging from areas such as the work fields, social positions and education. Society should open up its eyes to the horrible things happening to women today. Results of gender inequality often causes women to be mistreated in relationships. It is recorded “182,000 sexual assaults committed against women in 2008”(Washington Post). This number of sexual assaults is only the number that were reported whereas the number unreported is probably greater. Most women are afraid of reporting these actions because they are embarrassed and scared of how society would look at them. Women are scared because they don’t feel that they will be backed up in the world against man who are superior to them.
