Inequality in wages always has been unequal between the sexes. Women do have to pay the cost because she is a female as far as getting paid at a lower income. According to Padavic and Reskin (2002), “Women bear the primary responsibility for child rearing and other unpaid domestic work” (p. 131). Women are expected to be more committed in caring for family, household duties without pay, and spending less time at work. Men are usually more productive and put in more hours than women do at work which determines the pay gap (Padavic & Reskin, 2002). Also, when women go on maternity leave, the Republican and Democratic Parties on protecting their jobs are almost equal (Khazan, 2014). For example, Black gets paid less than any other race and ethnic background. Padavic and Reskin write, “African Americans for their work in the Nineteenth Century, they paid whites” (p.124). It is more likely the Blacks live in poverty due to the low wages that they earn. In contrast, Asians earning are higher than African Americans even though they are considered minorities. Padavic and Reskin (2002) admitted, Wages for Asian American men tend to be close to Non-Hispanic White men’s and was for Asian women tend to be slightly above those of Non-Hispanic White women” (p. 125). The pay gaps between the two races are surprisingly close. For this reason, fight for equal pay in occupations between the sexes and race has been implemented. According to Padavic and Reskin, “The policy of equal pay for equal work with a policy of equal pay for work of equal value, the earnings ratio increased from 65 percent to 84 percent (p. 145).
