Thimphu is capital city of Bhutan dotted with tall buildings and architecture, streets noisily prowled by the crowd of people and vehicles. Hence, it triggered me to do my research on gender equality in this capital city with large population from every nook and cranny of the country so that I can authenticate and authorize my findings. So, my participated outcome of observations here unfurl on. “We don’t want even laws if we consider all of us are human being.” said Mr. Thakur Sigh Powdyel, president of one of the private colleges (Royal Thimphu College) in Bhutan. He was the then education minister of Bhutan and also was a chairman of national commission of women and children. He proudly says that Bhutan focuses on providing equal justice to the entire citizen irrespective of their gender, caste, religion and social position of the person. The supreme law of the country, the constitution of Bhutan ensures equality for all the citizens. However, it seems that stereotypical notion of people in society of considering men as superior to women obstructs to ensure gender equality. For instance, people rarely and reluctantly vote to female candidate in election. Accordingly, people define different roles to different gender which makes one superior to another. Consequently, men and women act out their roles under the rigid structural framework of society which consequently brings an inequality between different genders.
