Gender In The Milk Film

Gender Essay “ I call myself a feminist when people ask if I am, and of course I am ‘cause it’s about equality, so I hope everyone is.” One idea that we discussed and stood out to me about gender was the Frank Ocean song that talked about bisexuality. Another one is from the Milk film where we learned about the history of gay rights. One of the main reasons that Stephens should teach this unit next year is because of Frank Ocean’s song everyone came out and talked about bisexuality and felt comfortable. One of the sources we examined was “Chanel”(Frank Ocean). This song showed how he wasn’t scared to come out as bisexual and he expressed how he felt in the song. This ties to my opinion because no one should hide what they feel and

Binary gender roles, and their perceived differences, are very prevalent in most cinema, but perhaps none are so stark and telling as those in torture porn. In his article, “The Problem of Saw: ‘Torture Porn’ and the Conservatism of Contemporary Horror Films”, Christopher Sharrett describes the role of the predatory captor as it relates to gender.1 Males almost always occupy the role, playing the part of vigilante as a “cruel but necessary father” who believes it is his duty to teach his moralities to his victims (34). Lockwood also points out voyeurism as a key characteristic of male captors, drawing attention to the focus the films give to the captor spying on the intended victim before their capture in some torture porn films (43).2 When…

This should be taught in EWRT 1B because to this day, students in college are afraid to take pride in their ethnicity or to show their sexuality in fear of being judged. Many students in society often get bullied because of their race. Reality shows that even some companies hire/terminate employees based on race, even when they are not allowed to discriminate. One of my friend’s old workplace fired several workers. The reasons behind the work terminations are not too certain, but the workers had one thing in common, they were asian.…

The Ambiguity of Gender The Oxford Dictionary defines gender as “the state of being male or female (typically used with reference to social and cultural differences rather than biological ones)”, meaning that sex and gender are not necessarily the same thing. In society, certain rules and guidelines have been set up for both genders and members of the respective communities are expected to follow these guidelines. In the short story “The Heifer” by Melissa Hardy, the main character, Aina, goes against gender norms and displays qualities that are often attributed to men. These qualities include strength, dedication, and intelligence: as exemplified through Aina’s creative thinking, such as figuring out how to get the cow over the frozen lake,…

I would like to examine Taylor Clark’s essay on Nervous Nellies or better yet her approach to explaining why women seem to be more anxious about life than mean. I believe the author did a great job in combining all three of the types of reasoning. She utilized the pathos style in appealing to our emotions by helping us actually take emotion out of the equation of why females react nervously when it comes to challenges. She showed us her authority on the subject by citing her book called Nerve.…

In the short story "Hills Like White Elephants," the author tells the reader the topic of conflict on page 636 when the American man tells Jig that it's a simple operation and not really an operation at all. Jig wanting to keep the baby while the American man wants to get rid of the problem they have. If the conflict of roles were switched and Jig favored to have an abortion and the American man did not, I'd feel differently since I do believe that a man has a saying in the decision making progress, since he has contributed to half of the fetuses DNA. However, personally, I believe that the women should have the final say since her body will be going through tremendous changes of pregnancy. That being the case I do not believe that the women…

As stated in Santock (2016, p. 169), boys are more likely to engage in rough tumble play as well as risk taking. These characteristics were seen in the Mongolian child, Beyarjargal. Feminism is the advocacy of women 's rights on the grounds of political, social, and economic equality to men. This is an important belief for me as we are all human, and therefore all equal. Although feminism is the belief and practice of gender equality, it is frequently considered to be ‘all inclusive’. This includes the erasal of gender role stereotypes, bias, and double standards. It also includes equal pay, the right of bodily autonomy, and other equal rights movements.…
