Many researchers have focused on Black males and urban education given that the urban area is where most Black males reside; however, few researchers have asked the same questions about Black male experiences within rural environments. I am specifically interested in the literature that addresses what causes the gender gap and race gap for Black men in rural education. There is not a policy that is gender or race specific for Black males in order to close this gap; although some researchers and practitioners might argue that Brown v. Board, Common Core, and No Child Left Behind are rulings and policies that address the gap. However, the gender gap still exists, which proves that these policies might have impacted some individuals but have not
