To me most of it stems from the fact that women at one point in time were treated as lesser than men. For some reason in this country we bring the past up constantly and try to make amends for it. Women have every opportunity that me does and in some situations they have more. When a couple has a child the mother gets a long time off of work. That’s understandable. The baby needs a lot of attention and the mother needs to rest and spend time with her child. What about the father of the child? Why doesn’t he get a long time period off to spend with his significant other and newborn? If you look hard enough and cherry pick statistics you can make something out of nothing.
