In truth while our community is ethical and honorable we still, like many others, have to face difficult challenges and problems. The test here is to be able to conquer these challenges the way the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) taught the Muslim Ummah to throughout his life. Gossip and backbiting run through our community, and it is very destructive to relationships between each other. Allah (SWT) says in the the holy Quran: “Do not concern yourself with things about which you have no knowledge. Verily, your hearing, sight, and heart -- all of them will be called to account" (5 “Lessons from the Qur'an Regarding Gossip and Backbiting”). Allah (SWT) will ask our physical attributes, like our eyes, ears, and tongue, about the the content it has heard, viewed, or said. If one has engaged in gossip and backbite, they will be punished. The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) gave examples from his own life for dealing with backbiting and slander. He asked his followers once, “Do you know what backbiting is?” They responded with, “Allah and His Messenger know best.” The Prophet then says, “Saying something about your brother that he dislikes.” One of his followers then asked, “What if what I say about my brother is true?” The Prophet then said, “If what you say is true then you have backbitten about him, and if it is not true, then you have slandered him.” (5 “Lessons from the Qur'an Regarding Gossip and Backbiting”) Allah (SWT) says in Surat Qasas, “And when they hear ill speech, they turn away from it and say, ‘For us are our deeds, and for you are your deeds. Peace will be upon you; we seek not the ignorant.’" (6 "Surah Al- Qasas"). Whenever a Muslim hears another gossiping,
