Gender Equity & Gender Stratification There is great emphasis placed on the differences between men and women and the socially constructed gender roles each is expected to perform. These expectations lead to gender stratification and unequal gender treatment between the sexes in the workplace and even in the home. There is a relationship between gender equity and gender stratification in that they both pertain to the equal or unequal treatment of males and females. Gender stratification cuts across all aspects of social life, social classes and the unequal access to power, prestige, and property on the basis of sex (Gender Stratification, 2015; Knapp, Sex Differences & Gender Stratification, 2015). Gender Equity is the process of allocating resources, programs, and decision making fairly to both males and females without any discrimination on the basis of sex and addressing any imbalances in the benefits available to males and females (Gender Equity, 2015). In Western countries achievement in education has paved the way for women to enter professions once unheard of; however, there is a disparity in wages between men and women. For the same job and same amount of work, female executives are paid 2/3 less money than male executives (Knapp, Sex Differences & Gender Stratification, 2015).
