Throughout humanity, the woman is seen as the homemaker and the man is seen as the worker. Nobody was to be thought of as anything else. The human race has always looked at it like that, even back when humans were primates. But as time progresses women want a change. Women see themselves as equal to men in the workplace and any other place. They know that they are just as capable to do a job or anything a man can do. By the Industrial Revolution more women went to work and at the time of the 1840’s only 10% of women had jobs outside of their homes (Johnson). Even though today more and more women join the workplace a long side their husbands and brothers they do not earn the same amount of pay for the same jobs that they do. The global gender pay gap is 3% to 51% with a global average of 17%. This means that women are making anywhere from 3% to 51% as much as men do (“Gender Inequality…”). How can women expect to be treated equally if they can’t even receive the same pay? Though the pay gap is relevant it does not stop women from achieving their goals. In 2010, 65 million women were in the labor force (“Gender Inequality…”). Women have started to close then gender gap in the work place, they are closing the pay gap and getting more women to come out and join the labor …show more content…

World War II ended on September 2, 1945 when German leader, Adolf Hitler, killed himself. The end of this detrimental war was good news for the U.S. but it was the start of an arms race between America and the Soviet Union which was another reason that women in the workforce became more common. While the war was still in action and women began to take on "man's work" most people just assumed that women would just go back to their housewive lives once the war ended. After the war, women were still employed as secretaries, waitresses, or in other clerical jobs, what we often call the "pink collar" work force.…

Women choose what they do with their education, “while men were more likely to graduate from college in the 1960s and 1970s, since the 1990s, the majority of all undergraduate and graduate degrees have gone to women” (Stevenson). Women have the ability to get equal pay considering they have the education they need to go into the workforce, women aren’t applying themselves and don’t get equal pay as a result. To say women aren’t getting paid equally isn’t fair considering they are capable of choosing high paying jobs and working…

Throughout history, men claim themselves to be more productive than women. For example, in times of war only men were able to fight while women were to stay home and perform household work. This suggests that a woman isn’t capable of doing the work of a man, and sets a domain to what a woman believes her role is in life.
