It was not until 1920 when women were allowed to vote in the United States. 1969 when they were accepted into Ivy League schools along with men. Finally in 1964, the Civil Rights Act made it illegal to discriminate an employee based on their gender or race. 50 years have gone by since that law was passed yet women and feminists everywhere are still fighting to gain rights that they were promised oh so long ago. It is 2016 and women who work the same job as men, are paid 20% less than their male counterpart. It is very evident that the gender gap is real and so is discrimination towards women in the workplace, but there is not enough being done about it. In other words, the change needs to start in the companies and their management style. To have a transparent environment, one must have communication, honesty, regular feedback, respect and be able to admit when they are wrong. In an article about how to improve gender inequality in the workplace on Forbes.com, Forbes Coaches Council claims that, “Are women in equivalent roles to men paid equally? If you 're serious about promoting female equality in the workplace, be transparent about your desire address these questions and then follow up with real, shared action.” (Forbes Coaches Council 5). When companies are upfront to their employees and are transparent about the way they run their office, there is little opportunity for discrimination and women who are applying to work there can see if that office would be a good fit for them and if they would be able to succeed and move up in their careers. It is important to keep in mind that one of the major steps in creating an equal and safe space in the workplace for women is to communicate with them and be equal to all
