Gender Dysphoria Pros And Cons

Decent Essays
I think the biggest reason why Gender Dysphoria should be removed from the DSM is because it is not a mental disorder. Some one can’t just be fixed because others think that a person is sick because of who they are. I am very proud of those parents from the video because they are supporting and loving their children. They didn’t turn there children away from them and abandoned their children. If I was a parent of a child who was transgender I would support and love them for every thing they are because regardless of how they look I love them. I have a strong value of family and that no matter how or you they are I am suppose to love and support my family. And the only truly horrible thing I could ever do to someone I love would be to not except

Though transsexuals have this oasis from judgment, bisexuals often do not share the same comforts. Bisexuals of both binary genders suffer a disregard of their identity from the outside heterosexual world. Females deal with their sexuality being seen not as an identity but as a label that pornography companies throw around as an erotic bonus to anything that needs it. The female bisexual label is entirely normalized. Jenny Kangasvuo (2007) writes: In porn magazines, the term 'bisexuality' serves multiple purposes and it is not pinned…

These are all things that can affect someone who is transgender and isn't allowed or isn't able to get surgery done to be who they believe they are. In the end I believe that people have the choice to be who they want to be who they want to be, and no one should stop them from doing that. A person mental health can be greatly affected if they feel that their physical body does not match their gender. When raising a transgender child it is a very delicate process, much like any child with a disorder, it will take time and patience. Raising a transgender child isn’t something anyone is prepared for. The question is,” how can a parent be sure they are making the right decision for their child” (McCloskey 291)? Most parents already know when their child is showing different gender schemes that are not of the social norm. In the case of Brandon Simms, his mother Tina Simms states that before Brandon was two years old.…

The article “Family Invites Paxton to Dinner to put a Face on Transgender Issues” discusses the experience the Briggle family faced after inviting the Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton over for dinner on Thursday, September 1st. The beginning of the article shared how Adam and Amber Briggle were nervous about having dinner with Paxton. This was because Adam and Amber have a transgender son and knew about Paxton’s recent decision to oppose the expansion of civil rights for gay and transgender people. Paxton opposing to expand civil rights for the gay and transgender population resulted in Adam and Amber to become concerned about their son’s safety when he goes to the bathroom at school. Inviting the Paxton family over for dinner was an act of diplomacy by the Briggle family and was a way for them to bond with the Paxton family; showing they are a family that cares deeply about the safe upbringing of their son in the Dallas-Fort community.…

Being born in South Central Los Angeles, I was taught that homosexuality is wrong. In the predominately black community if anyone was gay, there were two options; one hide your identity so that you won’t be harassed, two you are open about your sexual identity, but face the risk of harassment from your local community members and be looked down upon. One of the reasons why people are pushed to be straight is that it’s essential to push young boys to become proper men for wives, due to the amount of black men incarcerated. With the lack of fathers in the household, sons developed feminine traits from their own mothers, which can lead them to be gay. Also boys fail to learn to respect women because they’re no fathers to properly discipline them.…

Gay love has been an issue for the longest now and it’s beginning to get out of hand. But that’s not the only thing that’s getting out of hand, what also is getting out of hand is societies view on those who are transgender. Which brought to my attention that some people are so reluctant to change that they resort violence and brute force in order to shape things into their image whenever something that they say is wrong starts to occur. They are only interested and care about what they want to see is “right” day to day. The way we approach people who are gay or transgender is outright ridiculous and ignorant which can easily be added to the millions of other situations where ignorance has occurred in history.…

With the rising prevalence and exposure of transgender issues, media portrayals of gender dysphoric characters are becoming common. I found a book and TV show that I chose to analyze. These two examples include characters that share almost no similarities except their diagnosis of gender dysphoria. The first is the character Sophia Burset (formally Marcus Burset) on the show Orange is the New Black. The particular episode I evaluated dealt with how Sophia began her transition as an adult; however, a multitude of transgender topics exist throughout all of the show’s episodes.…

Fear Mongering: Gender Dysphoria After reading all of these articles, understanding the definition of fear mongering, purposefully creating public feelings of turmoil/fear over popular issue, and grasping the fact that there is nothing to fear when looking at transgender people as active, healthy parts of our society, it is clear the strengths fear holds over our society. The people in these articles used fear to manipulate others, they made others feel as if they were in danger, their values were in danger, or their children were in danger. All of these forms make people want to eliminate a possible threat, in this cause transgender people.…

Non-Binary and Transgender People When a child is born the first thing their parents hear is, “Congratulations it’s a girl,” or “Congratulations it’s a boy”. Already trying to enforce the idea that there are only two genders the moment they take their first breath. JAC Stringer of the Heartland Trans* Wellness Group defined, gender binary as the cultural belief of only two genders existing and they have to correspond to the appropriate sex. This social construct is iterated on a daily basis whether it is through medical institutions, language or applications. As a result of its dominance in society, the gender binary system is highly exclusive towards non-binary and transgender people.…

Ableism can be defined by Campbell (2008) who argues ableism is connected with the production of ableness which refers to the perfect body by default (p.153). Campbell (2008) also argues that “the creation of a neologism that suggests a falling away from ableness that is disability (p.153). Ableism causes social marginalization and exclusion to those who do not conform to societies ablest norms (Dhamoon, 2009, p.113). The concept of ableism can be shown in the two readings the first one is “Regulating Difference: Accounts of Deaf and Transsexual Difference” from Identity/Difference Politics written by Rita Dhamoon. The second article is written by Judith Butler called “Doing Justice to Someone: Sex Reassignments and Allegories of Transsexuality.…

Gender nonconforming, gender identity and gender binary are topics seldom used in conversation involving children. In one discussion when people were asked to define the word gender many of them said it meant someone was male or female. The true meaning of the word gender translates to people and their behavior and characteristics, whether masculine or feminine. Equally important when the prefix trans is added to gender and the word transgender is formed many people immediately think it is homosexual or transsexual in nature. The truth is transgender people are not gay nor do choose to have the characteristics of someone of the opposite sex.…
