Gender Discrimination Within The Workplace Essay
According to TNS Research Surveys, it was discovered that 68 percent of women surveyed believe gender discrimination exists in the workplace. The Federal law protects women and other minorities from discrimination in the work place. The Equal Pay Act of 1963 ended the practice of paying men more than women when performing the same jobs and duties. In 1964, the Civil Rights Act extended this protection to other minorities. Even with the protections many women still feel gender-based discrimination is a problem in some businesses.
Discrimination in the Workplace involves treating someone unfavorably because of the person’s sex, whether they are applying for a job or are a current employee. Women often show that they have the ability to perform with the same skill and success in every endeavor engaged in by men, but sex discrimination still holds many back. Sex discrimination is predominantly an issue for women, but can sometimes be directed towards men as well.
Sex or gender discrimination refers to individuals being treated differently in their employment because an individual is a woman or a man. Being rejected for employment, fired, or otherwise harmed in employment because of your sex or gender, then you may have suffered sex or gender discrimination.
Discriminating against anyone is generally illegal regardless of whether it is based on sex, or gender, or both sex and gender.
