What is the pay gap? In your answer, be sure to define equal pay and comparable worth. Describe three main reasons for the pay gap and provide ways that we (as individuals or as a society) could lessen the pay gap.
Women have struggled to find themselves on an equal playing field with men in the professional world for many years, not to mention before they were even in it. In this day and age, women find themselves still at a disadvantage. The pay gap is a heavily debated topic which has led to many uproars in the female community. In America we promote a very individualistic way of living and this causes problems when dealing with equal right movements. A second reason why the gap exists is that even when a women has a case of being under paid, it has been made a very cumbersome process to sue under the Equal Pay Act. Even after all the fees and the process is over with, there are harsh restrictions placed on the reward. This also causes a lack of desire for an attorney to take on the case. One lastly important thing that contributes to the pay gap is the evidence that making less money is correlated with staying home more (Lecture). Women are known to usually be the ones who take off work to raise children, which is also taken into account when calculating the gap. All the factors that funnel into women’s equality in the workforce make it seem like there is no other choice a family can make besides the options of pay equity AND
