Have you ever faced gender discrimination? Sexism, the unfair treatment based on gender, is a problem that exists almost everywhere in our society. However, sexism usually occurs against women. According to the article, Let’s not talk about sex: The gender of sexual discourse, argues that American women are generally reluctant to talk about sex because there are taboos about women openly discussing their own sexual behavior, sexual desire, or sexual problems in large part because sex talk is masculinized (2014). The research was done to explored the way women feel talking about sex, and factors that inhibit discussion of sexuality. The method used in the research was based on interviews with a diverse group of ninety-five women aged twenty to sixty eight. In addition, the results indicated that sex is often an uncomfortable or avoided topic for women. Due to gender discourses women are generally reluctant to talk about sex; therefore, our society needs to change their stereotypical judgments of women.
For women sex is often an uncomfortable or avoided topic because they fear sexual taboos or they fear judgment. For example, masturbation, or just the fact of expressing their own sexual desire, or sexual problems are view as immoral. Breaking a taboo is extremely objectionable in society as a whole because is view as an activity that is forbidden based on religion or morals. Why can women not talk about it?
