I, however, didn’t think what he said was necessarily true. I thought his style was very gender-neutral, and even though the clothes looked good on him, I wouldn’t consider them to be especially masculine. When asked about his opinion on the way people of different genders and sexual identities are treated in today’s society, Colin agreed that there were definitely inequalities and stigmas about gender and sexuality that still persist, and those were experienced by everyone regardless of how they identified themselves. Seeing my confusion, he went on and explained that even if you were a male, people still have certain stereotypes about you and expect you to be in a certain way that probably didn’t fit with how you envisioned your life. That being said, he admitted that gender minorities undoubtedly had to confront more pressures and inequalities in their lives than did a white heterosexual male such as himself.
