One male I interviewed said the first thing he thought was “obnoxious”, but was able to explain that it was because of the small percent of “feminists” who give feminism a bad name. bell hooks states “I tend to hear all about the evil of feminism and the bad feminists: how “they” hate men; … how “they” are all lesbians” (hooks vii). Which is another problem hooks brings up, people have to let feminism into their mind and heart and look at the effective factors of

The word “feminism” is often misinterpreted in our society; a prime example of feminism mistranslated is found within an article titled “Why Modern Feminism is Illogical, Unnecessary, and Evil” by Satoshi Kanazawa. The author claims that feminism is “illogical” because he believes the concept is based upon the assumption that men and women are identical in all aspects. He also argues that feminism is “unnecessary”, as he believes that women are more privileged than men, and that feminism is “evil”, because it makes men and women unhappy. As a feminist, I couldn’t disagree more with these arguments; I…

When someone says they are a feminist, people often think they hate men when in reality they do not. Many people who identify as a feminist do have anger and some hate towards men, however, that is not what true feminism stands for. Even though it seems that a woman’s role in society has changed, it has not. In the 1960s when the women’s liberation movement began, the expectation was that a woman was a mother and took care of the home.…

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the definition of feminism is “the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes.” While this definition should be the goal for humankind, feminism also encompasses many other problems with society that cannot be explained through one simple definition. One of these problems happens to be the stereotypes associated with women. For example, in the American 1950’s, an almost normal way of treating women was simply by brushing them off in intellectual conversation, believing women were only valued for their maternal instinct. In The Catcher in the Rye, Holden reaffirms similar stereotypes to this, including weakness, stupidity, and the objectification of a woman’s body for sexual…
