Growing up in a culture that heavily emphasizes the difference between men and women, in which roles and behavior have been already set and haven’t changed in centuries. Growing up in a Middle Eastern household, everything is influenced by culture one way or another. The idea of different genders is a concept that the majority of Middle Easterners can’t conceptualize due religious reasons and societal norms. In Arab culture, men and women have very distinct gender roles. Women are seen to be housewifes when the grow up and their main goal in life that is set by Middle East society is to get married and pass on their genes. Men are seen as the head of the household, in which everything they say must be obeyed and they are suppose to take care of everything financially. Although recently, due to change in gender roles and sexuality in many developed nations. It has sparked a movement in which ideological reform is taken place. In my family many of the Middle East gender roles are present. My father usually takes care of all the …show more content…
Women who are in open and diverse structures have a better chance of survival when compared to women who are operating in cohesive teams or scenarios. Lutter touches upon how men try their best to maintain an advantage in the workplace. In the reading “An overview of Sex Inequality at Work” by Irene Padavic and Barbara Reskin. Both authors state how men stay at an advantage in the workplace especially at male dominant jobs. “Why do some men see women as threats to their advantaged position?... some men fear that women might take jobs away from them, outperform them on the job,...” The authors showcase the men’s point of view when it comes to women in the workplace of male dominant positions. Lutter demonstrates a similar point in his article. The same point of view is expressed if one were to look at many of the positions in the film
