Geek Culture

When you think of a geek, you usually think of the thick glasses, reading Batman comics and usually getting beat up by high jocks. Of course, not to mention the embarrassment of going to a comic con in handmade costumes of our favorite super hero or TV show character.

Nowadays, we see a lot more geek culture and it’s become a cool, social aspect to embrace that quirky side of being a geek. It’s now cool to strut in our amazing cosplays—cosplay, not costume—and enjoy the fascination of comic cons. And of course, with more creative cosplays, they are definitely going to comic cons to show off their passion of being a geek. Comic cons definitely rose up in numbers of people attending each year.

The Denver Comic Con--started in 2012--had 27,700 attendees its first year and risen up to 101,500 attendees in the 2015 comic con in June! Comic con has brought a lot of geeks together and really made it a welcoming community.

In fact, all comic cons made it a goal to spread this kind of culture that being a geek is a cool thing to do now. Some cons being created are specifically for anime, video games, or movies so that anyone who’s ‘geeking’ out on Star Wars, there’s a con for that!

So what is comic con about then? Well, it’s a mixture of meeting celebrities, looking at cool props from your favorite show, and obviously comic books. But it’s also a way to bring fellow geeks into a culture of expressing your

Almost every Marvel character has one super human ability, where it comes down to one person with super strength, one person with super speed, and one person with the ability to fly. In DC the characters have more than one ability, for example Superman doesn’t just have eye-beams or incredible strength or incredible speed or the ability to fly, but all of those and more (McKenzie, 2010). Marvel movies are better than Dc, and why is that, on an average since the 2000`s marvel movies have averaged a 60 percent of Fan who voted they like marvel more while Dc movies only get 47 percent of fan votes . Marvel is more related to real life in terms of cities like New York, where in Dc the locations are in outer space or in places no one has heard of before. This has let me to believe that as of now marvel is more favored by fans than DC because of who goes to see the movies and purchase the products, and Marvel sells more than…
