Rhetorical Analysis of “Gaza Burial” The photograph which is being rhetorically analyzed is titled as “Gaza Burial”. It is the 2013 Word Press Photo of the year. The photo was taken by a Swedish photographer of Sweden’s Dagens Nyheter newspaper, Paul Hansen. The photo was captured when the dead bodies of two children were taken to the cemetery for burial services. These two children were killed during an air strike by Israel on November 19 2012. Bombing killed Fouad Hijazi and two of his toddlers. If audience views the photographs from left to right then the focus of the picture becomes the dead bodies of the children and specially their faces. If the photograph is vied from top to bottom it directs the audience again at the faces of dead bodies of toddlers. So the focus of the photograph is made the centre of the photographs. Another factor which makes the location of the photograph effective is the presence of the focus of the photographs, which is the dead bodies of the children, in the one third part of the picture. Whether the viewer views the photograph from top to bottom or from left to right, the focus would automatically become the dead bodies. The walls of the building make a frame for the focused subject of the photograph. The line of movement of the people behind the front family members and the dead bodies makes the photograph very effective to view at. The body language of the people their facial expressions also make the photo heart touching. Another factor is the presence of the photographer close to the subject of the photograph. To put in other words the photographer seems to be very close to the subject. The focus of the camera is very proximate to the subject of the picture which makes the scene even more
