Response to Murphy’s “Gay parents Find more Acceptance”
By: Ilarion Salgado Jr. Having Gay Parents or lesbian parents has its pros and cons. everyone has their different opinions and some people oppose is or support it but it is termed as the most planned parenthood in the world. It is one of the biggest controversial topics debated. “Gay parents find more acceptance” written by Carlyle Murphy originally published in the Washington post in 1999. The experts in this article Talk about how over the years as a society has been changing enormously. There has been a significant amount of gay and lesbian couples starting to raise children. As Murphy States in the article that now gay people who want to start a family have much more access and

He mentions that there is a political organization that strongly opposes the same sex parenthood idea. This organization strongly urges homosexuals to change and oppose their idea. Their argument is that children are raised around an unnatural environment. A man named Robert knight from the council states that “in a homosexual household, not only of the sexes are missing, but the child are confronted with abnormal sexuality being presented as the norm.” he also states that “ having to explain to peers that you have two mommies or two daddies is a burden no child should Have to bear.” I can see this being a huge mind battle for a child. I feel that no matter what these children will go through these rough times with other kids because kids will be kids, they bully each other and judge sometimes. The kids do not know what is normal or not unless an idea has been presented to them. But kids also find a lot of things weird, they do not know what is going on so they speak and say whatever. These are the type of things no child should go through. These things can get same sex couples thinking twice on becoming …show more content…
They say how it is false that a lot of people think that since a child is being raises by homosexual parents, the child might grow up to be gay because their parents influenced them. Teresa and Jo State that they told their kids that it is fine whether they are gay or straight. People label gay/lesbian people so much and assume they want everyone to be homosexual. I agree with Murphy statement that even if homosexual parents tried to influence their children, it wouldn’t work. Vanessa Schwartz, a history professor uses her daughter as an example. She suggests to her daughter that Cinderella can be happy with another Cinderella but her daughter disagrees. Her daughter says no that she needs to find a prince! My main point is that Murphy is a supporter of gay and lesbian parents such as I am. I agree with Murphy’s whole idea and his concepts. Gay parents can be great parents just as a straight couple. Sure they will have problems but everyone does. I am a huge supporter of same sex parents and I find no reason why they should not be able to raise a child. Maybe even a straight couple can learn from them. This idea will grow in the future slowly and

I had understood the concept of these types before reading about them, but I didn’t have the language to articulate them. The article “7 Examples Of Benevolent Sexism That Are Just As Harmful As Hostile Sexism” by Suzannah Weiss helped to open my eyes to the ways benevolent sexism is a part of everyday life.
