Being Gay in the U.S.A
Homosexuality has been a huge topic of controversy in the United States since the first homosexual couple was refused their right to marry took their case to court in 1970. Since then, America has made major changes that have directly affected the LGBT community for the better. On June 26th, 2015 the Supreme Court gave same-sex couples the right to marry anywhere in the United-states. Now it is 2016, same-sex marriage is legal throughout the entire United States, and things are only going to get better from here on out. In order to understand why the legalization of gay marriage is so important, there has to be a comprehension of the reasoning that people were, and some still are, against it in the first place. Some have argued that children raised by same-sex couples will not be raised properly because children need a mother and a father. That argument has been proven incorrect by multiple studies that ultimately say that children raised by same-sex parents are at no disadvantage whatsoever. What sort of message does it send to children with same-sex parents that their parents are not allowed to marry? With gay marriage being legal, these children have much more family stability. The stigma that their parents are not worthy of their right to marry is no longer in the back of their head. It also benefits children with heterosexual parents because they will now grow up in a world where same-sex marriage isn’t considered taboo. Children growing up in America are going to be slower to judge and more willing to accept people for who they …show more content…

Now that America has joined the team, the international reputation is stronger. Social justice activist, Murray Lipp, states, “The removal of anti-gay discrimination in all state federal laws that apply to marriage would play a key role in enhancing America’s international reputation in matters of social justice and in restoring our integrity as a global leader in the provision of civil and human rights.” (Lipp) A recent study from Pew Research Center did a study that showed while older generations have become more supportive of same-sex marriage over recent years, younger generations express much higher acceptance for same-sex marriage (Pew Research Center). This, in time, will only help to solidify the recent laws regarding same-sex marriage. The legalization of same-sex marriage in all 50 states has improved America for the better. It has greatly improved our economy by allowing same-sex couples to have weddings. It also made America a less discriminating nation to live it. The new law has had only a positive effect on children and will continue to benefit the stability of same-sex couple families over the years. Lastly, it has made America’s reputation stronger. Moving forward, America will continue to be a global leader of human and civil rights and continue to set progressive examples for other countries
