Gay Rights Most people believe that they deserve the rights they are granted by the government. Not all citizens are given equal rights. Gay and lesbians are constantly denied rights that are typically taken for granted by any American. Specifically, gay and lesbians couples are denied the right to marry even if they are citizens. America is most valued for the amounts and right to freedom you have, but to not be able to get married to whom you want, does that show freedom? Today, gay marriage is a very controversial topic throughout American politics, gay marriage is neither detrimental or beneficial to the American society and how we live today.

The congressional Republicans took the jump to achieve the Defense of Marriage Act, that of which affirms the right to states and federal government not to make same sex marriages licensed in other jurisdictions. Republicans acknowledge their support for the constitutional amendment that defines marriage as one women and one man. Republicans amend all the citizens in the majority of the states that reconcile with the views of the Republicans and the traditional concept of marriage. In 2006 Republican wanted to federalize gay marriage through the constitutional amendment. Republicans wanted gay marriage in the national political dialogue but there was a problem being that the 50 states owned that issue (Republican). There was no way that the republicans could claim jurisdiction as the congress. Republicans then came up the the idea of transforming the legislative state issue into a constitutional federal issue. The republicans proposed a constitutional amendment on gay marriage that would ban states from acting on their own social status for this issue. Republicans are viewed commonly ad the political party that is in favor on state level independence. But, Republicans now want to forbid the right for any gay/lesbian to marry and ammend this is the US constitution. The congress would not ban gay marriage but the constitutional amendment would prevent the liberal states from recognizing gay couples as a married couple. The amendment would help the states rights for banning gay marriage even if most citizens in the state were in favor on the law being passed. The Republican party is clear about their own veiws on marriage (Republican). The belief that marriage is a legal agreemet between one man and one women is what republicans strive off of.
