Approximately 69% of America’s gay population, about 10.1 million people, wish to get married ("Gay and Lesbian Americans"). Because of restrictions in legislation in current laws, this might not be possible for this large group of US citizens. The sexuality of two people should not affect their marital rights.
The government should not be allowed to set proximities for what love is and isn’t; love is a malleable idea that fluctuates in every situation. The officials trusted with the freedoms of Americans are yanking away the rights of the people underneath their noses. In the United States, citizens have the ability to marry whomever they please, unless its to a person of the same gender. The universal purpose of religion is to hope and have faith in one’s life. People of the Christian religion who use the bible as an argument against gay marriage is incongruous; christians are picking sections out of their sacred book to prejudice same sex marriage. One of the passages used for persecuting gays in the bible is Genesis 19, which most interpret as condemning homosexuality. But Arthur Frederick Ide, a scholar with a doctorate in biblical studies and interpretation claims, “While many naïve, uninformed, and illiterate consider the account to be a condemnation of homosexuality – one which is not spelled out anywhere in the account – the opposite is quite the case”(Choosing Hats).The discrimination against gays using religion as an argument is unethical in the fact that religion is supposed to bring people together not tear them
