A study published in Pediatrics on June 7, 2010 found that children of lesbian mothers were rated higher than children of heterosexual parents in social and academic competence and had fewer social problems. (ProCon) Also, with gay couples, they face the challenge of not being able to have a kid. Same sex couples can decrease the number of kids all over the world needing to be adopted. Gay parents “tend to be more motivated, more committed than heterosexual parents on average, because they chose to be parents,” said Abbie Goldberg, a psychologist at Clark University in Massachusetts who researches gay and lesbian parenting. Some of their arguments include that the idea of marriage has traditionally been defined as being between a man and a woman, children need a mother and a father, and it’s against their religious beliefs. Social expectance has changed compared to prior times in the United States, which makes gay relationships occur more. Having a mother and a father figure in your life is important; however, being raised by a same sex couple will not affect how a child develops. In conclusion, if someone is going to use the bible to justify their beliefs against gay marriage they need to interpret the whole bible rather than just using what is convenient for them.
