A man by the name of George Everett Klippert was arrested for his ‘gross indecency’ which the ruling was criticized by the media on his trial and the ruling of imprisonment. This is only setting up this generation for lack of understanding on the topic in later years. It was in 1971 in which the first protests on behalf of gay rights took place in Ottawa and Vancouver vocalizing their unsettled opinions on the discrimination of the gays and lesbians. It was a year later when the first Pride celebration took place on the Toronto Islands (Encyclopedia). The celebration of pride grew every year despite the police discrimination, there was two major changes to the legislate on the Human Rights Code in reference to the discrimination on sexual orientation. Another amendment made in 1977 was the Canadian Immigration Act in which lifted the ban of gay men from immigrating to Canada. Another essential point of the Baby Boomers generation was a big turning point for the LGBTQ community in Canada as Bill C-242 came into play which prohibited the discrimination of sexual orientation this was the first reading of the bill as it was a big first step to implement this type of a statement within the Canadian Human Rights Act. It was throughout the 1980’s where many spoke out more of their own life choices
