Equal Rights Persuasive Speech

When I was a little kid, my parents were poor. My mom was single and trying to raise three children while working two jobs, and my dad never paid child support. Since my mom couldn’t afford to pay rent, we moved around a lot. We lived in very low income parts of town, the ones where you’re scared for your life walking down the street. I saw people get judged every day in those neighborhoods. They were picked on because of the color of their skin, their income, their gender, and their sexuality. If you were white you were a minority, if you were African American you were judged outside of North Tulsa. If you were gay you didn’t fit in anywhere. Growing up there helped me realize that everyone deserves to be treated fairly, considered an equal, and everyone deserves to be happy. I strongly believe that racism needs to end, and that everyone deserves to be treated as equals. One of the first things I noticed about North Tulsa was everyone felt racism. No one went without being judged for something, and everyone was still angry about slavery. When I would go to school, some students would be mean to me because I was white. The United States has made huge leaps in same-sex marriage but we still have a lot of work to do. In 2015, it was ruled that state bans against same-sex marriage was unconstitutional. I believe everyone should be allowed to love, no matter the gender or sexuality of their partner. Marriage is a big deal, and denying homosexual people that right is wrong. Unfortunately, there are still people who are living in the past and they think it’s okay to discriminate against gay couples. Some bakeries, florists, caterers, people necessary to have a good wedding, are refusing to work for same sex couples. This is horrendous because that’s hate, that’s not religion. I hope that this type of behavior does not continue because everyone deserves to be
