In this day and age, being gay is relevant simply because it strays from the societal norm.Society has fallacies and stereotypes of homosexuals from flamboyance to obsessing with fashion. Everyone think they can observe and distinguish who is gay by the way they act or dress. This is partially because of the media which inclines to propagate the stereotypes affiliate with the LGBT community. These portrayals in movies and TV shows leads to fallacies portrayed into society and society observing the LGBT community as diseases. One movie that did this was Legally Blonde. Legally Blonde is a wonderful movie, but it didn 't shy away from taking the unmanly gay man stereotype to the next degree by suggesting that “ gay men are experts in fashion, art, and music 's biggest divas” (Reese 2015 para. 8) .These homosexual and lesbian characters are all too often symbolizing and reflecting stereotypes of gesticulations and lifestyles. Celebrities who identify as part of the LGBT community can offer optimism to gay youths suffering from harassment or hate crimes. If these idols are treated poorly by the media, then the next age group will see this and respond by performing in a similar way. Gay and lesbian celebrities are obliged to publicly come out of “the closet”, most of the time struggling to keep their social images from plummeting because of their sexual orientation. Even those who recognize themselves as straight have to "come out" as heterosexual to dismiss reports that might detriment their careers. However, with so many singers, celebrities, and actors being in the LGBT community, it is starting to gain approval globally. More and more celebrities and politicians are displaying their support for the LGBT community. Public polls, throughout the United States, display increasing approval for gay rights. Furthermore, the Supreme Court ruled 5-4 that “gay marriage is a constitutional right” implication that no states can prohibit a gay couple from getting married. (Gay Marriage, 2015) Thirty years later, gay marriage was legal in every state and The court’s action rewarded years of legal work by same-sex marriage advocates.
