The American Bar Association has estimated that in the United States approximately “four million gay and lesbian parents are raising eight to ten million children” (Miles 3). Today this number is continuing to increase, but many gay couples are still striving for the ability to have a family of their own. In order to do this, gays seek out children who are eligible for adoption because they cannot have children on their own. However, today that poses a huge complication to gay partners. This is because many adopters are not open to gay parents in fear that they cannot provide the child with the necessary environment he or she needs. Conversely, gay spouses have the same potential as heterogeneous spouses when it comes to raising a child, and there is no scientific study stating that “it is better for a child to grow up with a mother and a father” (Miles 1). Studies have been tested recently to further prove this statement. The results came back better than expected, with a major point such that “gay parents are more likely to be tolerant and encouraging” than parents of the opposite sex (Wilson 1). This is because gay couples are not part of the stereotypical society, and instead are the ones outcast. This is leading to gay parents raising their children different where they are “demonstrating positive values toward their children”, and showing them that it is okay to be different and unique in their own ways (Wilson 2). Due to this belief, gay parents have broken typical stereotypes of children by allowing them to have a “wider range of toys… [where] girls can play with both dolls and trucks” and boys vice versa; abolishing the world known gender roles that existed in society for many years and continue to exist (Wilson 1). From further drawn out studies, the children that grew up with gay parents have “grown up to be more tolerant of differences” which is helping to leave a more positive impact on future
