Gay Acceptance Of The Iranian Culture Essay
In this assignment I really wanted to interview a gay Muslim on how it was to live in a country without having the chance to be open about his sexuality. My source would like to be anonymous, so I choose to call him Josef. I came in contact with Josef through an organization in Norway called Queer World. This organization is for people from minority groups who experience love, sexuality and attraction to the same sex, whether they define themselves as gays, lesbians, bisexual, queer, transgender or heterosexual. Queer world vision is a society where everyone, regardless of their ethnic and religious origins, can live out their sexual orientation, gender identity and their gender expression without experiencing discrimination. They will provide support, advice and information for lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgender with minority backgrounds and their families, which will promote integration and equality. Josef was born in Iran in 1962 in a Muslim family, and when he was 16 years old he choose to come forward and tell his family that he was gay. Josef told me that his father first words regarding his sexual orientation was “I failed as a father, hopefully the military academy will make you become a man, not a girl” So the first thing his family did was that they dropped him of to a military academy.
