Gavriil Paramanov Character Analysis

They say all things truly wicked start from innocence, but there has never been a time when Gavriil Paramanov was truly innocent; the setting of his life guaranteed that, even before he set his foot on the stage. A child born into a world of spectacular opulence and overwhelming excess, his parents expected their middle child to fit right in with other children who had also been born into the life of luxury. He was, after all, the charming one out of the twins; the confident, outgoing and social one; the one whose attention was turned outwards instead of inwards. In the beginning, though, Lev wasn’t his greatest flaw, but his biggest source of strength. Gavriil wasn’t like other children, but that was okay because all he needed was one person who understood him, knew him inside out, and that’s what Lev was to him. His twin understood his frustration at the world, something no one did, and Gavriil couldn’t help but be drawn to that. Two halves of a whole, he couldn’t understand how the rest of the world was so blind that they couldn’t appreciate his twin. They kept bullying, belittling and making fun of him, yet they chose to spare him of that treatment. It was injustice in Gavriil’s eyes because Lev was a masterpiece; the rest of the world was mad for not seeing what he saw. This blind adoration corrupted his actions for years to come and though he was eventually able to take off his rose-stinted glasses, it was too late. By then he had already committed horrible acts, all in the name of love. He had always fancied himself resistant to external manipulations, but now he was forced to realize this was not the case.
