The movie takes place at some point in the future, and the world is very different from what we know. Not only the technology is different but the society and the standards to be successful in life are very high caused by something call genetic engineering. “People used to say that a child conceived in love has a greater chance of happiness… They don’t say that anymore” (Niccol) With the genetic engineering scientist and couples that want a baby can make it the best out of them; they are able to choose skin color, eyes color, prevent diseases, small things as myopia, even behavioral issues as alcoholism, which makes life for people conceived by a natural way, almost impossible to be successful in what they want to accomplish in life. Irene was the only one besides Jerome that knew his real identity, so she helped him to get away from the cops many times. In the last day, the cops found out who the murderer was, and it turns out to be the Director Josef, who is the guy in charge of GATTACA. So after some events happened between Vincent, Jerome, Irene and a cop that was obsessed with catching Vincent; Vincent decided to meet with the cop. He went back to GATTACA and found the cop on his station, and it turned out to be his brother. They talked, and Anton told Vincent that he can send him to jail for fraud, and that he will never fly to the space. Vincent exuberant told him that ever since he lost that day at swimming, he has just being jealous of his abilities, just because he was supposed to be perfect. So Anton said that that was a one-time thing, so Vincent challenged him one more time. As they swam, it happened the same thing; Vincent was once again the stronger swimmer, so his brother saw that he was capable of going to the space, so he did not say a word to the police
