The PGD technology is used for checking genes and scanning embryos for any functional disorders. Babies that were checked by PGD and born are meant to be healthy and be in a really good shape. As seen in the movie Gattaca, Vincent was born with a heart disease and was expected to only live for 30 years. On the other hand, Vincent’s brother Anton has inserted a gene that prevented his chance of heart disease. Throughout the movie, Vincent is depicted as a fragile man while Anton was shown as a tough man. This type of technology could really save many human lives and can prevent children from dying at an early age. People may be imagining that a big discrimination might occur between the naturally conceived children and the designer babies just like the movie Gattaca. Discrimination is one of the main themes of Gattaca and it shows how upper-class and lower-class people are divided. Our society facing a discrimination like Gattaca is just unrealistic.
